Barbara I. Jones

Barbara I. Jones is a playwright with over 30 years of experience in writing, directing, and producing plays that build empowered and spiritually enriched communities. Over the years, her appreciation for the power of words has grown to be a fundamental building block for her work. She has extensively explored her gift as a wordsmith to become an attorney, educator, author, speaker, and the founder of Launch Theatre Productions.

Her work transcends the nature of a ‘normal job.” It is her calling because it serves to impact other people, especially those without a voice. Through her community-based Christian theatre company, Launch Theatre Productions, she creates plays that trigger a sense of community and love for discipleship. Her work has been featured in churches, on campuses, at conferences and major platforms in the United States and abroad. In 2002, she was a theatre educator and drama club sponsor in Okinawa, Japan, where she wrote, directed and produced original plays, including Amazing Grace, Hansel & Gretel, and Moe’s Town. She continues with her passion for educating but has since focused on mentoring women in fulfilling their purpose. She has authored two books, Think Long-Term: What Every Parent Should Know and A Woman’s Gotta Do What a Woman’s Gotta Do: Stories of Strength and Courage from Women in the Bible. As a practitioner in family law and juvenile justice, she passionately advocates for people who, because of their racial, social or economic status, would otherwise not have a voice.

Barbara credits her success, diverse talents, and longevity to her faith and her four years of service in the United States Air Force. She also holds a master’s degree in script and screenwriting from Regent University. She takes pride in her three children who, like their mother, have also tapped into the power of words; Terrie, as an attorney and blogger; Daniel, as an attorney and songwriter; and Ricki, as an author and poet.
